July 22, 2007 - Long Home Run 11.5 mi

Motionbased Data

Yowsers, I did it, only one new blister on my left foot, toe next to pinky toe. Shins feeling great. Shoulder sore before run, felt better after. Had some good speed down the hills, but that first 4.75 miles, all uphill killed me! Great run overall. I need to add a bit to it somewhere to get up to 12-15 miles some days...need a base!

Not too hot, since left house at 6:06AM and got back before 8AM. Nice run. Last bit ran into weeds and a big sink-hole of water, so that was bad and slowed me down, but checking motionbased data, my moving pace was 8:35, which is pretty good with some walking and being so long! Good job!

July 17, 2007 - Another Dip and Dash

OK, I never updated the last dip and dash race post with details, so I'll put up details for me and Steve for the two races I did, then I'll discuss. First, though, here's the link to the first and second race's, full results. Now, here's Steve's and my comparison:

        Swim Trans Run Overall
Plc Time Plc Time Plc Time Plc Time
June
Steve 4 13:18 3 1:05 2 23:04 2 37:26
Me 42 20:44 36 2:43 4 23:25 17 46:50

July
Steve 3 14:00 8 1:11 5 23:33 3 38:43
Me 30 18:43 29 2:05 9 24:35 9 45:22
So, first off, a few people said the swim course looked longer today, Steve and I and at least another person...looking at Steve's swim times for full course days: 13:53, 13:18, 12:48 and 14:00. Last week, the 12:48 Steve was feeling pretty sick, today he was feeling better, but his time was 1:12 slower? Sure it was hot, but that doesn't seem to matter in the water too much, and every other week he's been improving to slow down so drastically makes me think it had to be at least a little longer. And if the course was a little longer, that makes my improvement of 2:01 that much more impressive. At least 10% off my first time, and if Steve gained over a minute due to length, that'd be about 1:20-ish for me, so I really may have improved over 3 minutes, in a way? Nice!

And the transition, I definitely improved, but I forgot to pre-tie my shoes...d'oh!! So, that cost me at least 15 or so seconds.

Lastly, the run. What's to say, I stunk it up. Quads on fire, and it was hot. Lame excuses. Steve was a bit slower than that other week, but not much and that is likely just the heat some, but for me to gain 1:10 on the run is pathetic, pure and simple.

Coming into the finish, you can't see the clock until pretty close to the end, but it said 44:45, or something like that, so I just kept my pace, maybe increased slightly. My self goal was sub-45. The run killed me, after that swim. My legs were HEAVY, quads killing me...so, if I'd tied my shoes, I may have seen a lower time on the clock and been able to sprint it in? I'll never know.

I so need to do some hills/stairs or something to get my quads in shape. This time almost makes me want to do this again, instead of that 10k I have. I've run 10k's before. This is new. I don't want to do this over and over again, but to get a sub-45, maybe a sub-44 would be sweet. A shorter swim, cooler day, pre-tie my shoes...I could maybe do sub-43.

Anyway...Good race overall. It feels great to have improved. Heck I went from 17th to 9th! Yay, I broke the top 10!!!

I'll put up the run data later.
